February 3rd: Cordova Ice Worm Day

I found out what a cordova ice worm is!! Okay. Story time.

Sooo in 1898 this guy named EJ White was working as a journalist in Alaska. He got a job writing for the Klondike Nugget on the condition that he increased sales. After this huge snow storm hit, White wrote about this new creature called the ice worm. What a sneaky fellow. Everyone freaked out so he kept writing about it blah blah blah. You can find the whole official legend here: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/tall-tales/alaska.html

So now, every year in Cordova they celebrate Cordova Ice Worm Day with a winter carnival. No joke. They elect ice worm king and queen, too. It is now my life dream to be elected Cordova Ice Worm Queen just because it'd be awesome to brag about.
